Musings of the Pen...
Picking up the pen and writing that idea down, or making that first stroke to create an image that you see in your brain... that's first step and sometimes it's the hardest part and sometimes keeping it going is even harder.
A while back, about ten years or so I wrote HAUNTS & MINDSCAPES based on a question poised to a fellow student at Pitt... 'If we didn't have 'Human reality' to mirror or shadow on the stage and the consciousness of the stage still could exist... "What would it be?" Well she told me I couldn't write a play like that, so I did. Then a fellow gave me a picture. This one....

Well she told me I couldn't write a play like that, so I did. Then a fellow gave me a picture. This one....
The image sparked another play in my brain, FOUNDATIONS & MONUMENTS the brother play to HAUNTS & MINDSCAPES. The idea of in all of Man's greatness and our ability to rise above the situation and survive ourselves, that these great monuments that stand in testimony of what we have accomplished, and survived stand these silent giants of stone and marble and steel will stand one day lost to silence of our own grave. That in the end they are mighty tomb stones for the weary and hopeful to look upon on in wonder, to offer a little food for thought. "What now and where are we as people heading to?"
Well that was the question. of the play and all my plays start with a question. But it stopped there and ten some years later I picked it back up and tried to write it. Not an easy task. When the idea is fresh in your head it will burn into the paper and jump onto the computer screen... some years later, well not so much. But I did it, after two to three months of it fighting me the first draft is done and the second editing is on its way.
But now I am working on BRIDGES the third play in its thought process and the it Play of three Sisters rather than two Brothers and this one takes place on a Bridge and a few stop point down the road of life.
The lesson I learned.. when it's fresh seize it and go with it and it won't be as hard. Writing and drawing and putting your ideas and passions naked on a canvas of medium is never easy but it sure in hell is worth it.
